So when I was an audience member on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (that phrase seriously warms my soul), we were gifted a $200 gift card to use over at Houzz. I had no idea what I was going to get, but I can tell you I was ridiculously excited.
It took me a while to decide what I was getting, but the other day I finally ordered some stuff! I got a Kate Spade tumbler, a Lilly Pulitzer Large Catchall Tray in the Tusk in Sun print (something I’d buy for the name of the print alone), a couple of diamond weave throws and a Slate Mobile AirDesk.
I know it seems kind of silly to use my free money on a lap desk, but this is one big mama of a lap desk.
I’m constantly using my computer on my lap and it tends to overheat and burn my legs. I’ve come to the conclusion that while it’s definitely not good for my legs, it’s probably not too good for the computer either. So, the solution, a lap desk! But I’m not gonna get one of those lap desks of the past with the cushion-y beans or “fancy” memory foam on the bottom; I need something a little more high-tech.
To be honest it is about time that I invested in some new office furniture. I have had the same desk and chair for as long as I can remember so I am certainly in need of some updated pieces. One of my friends has told us that you can find office furniture online using websites like Office Monster, so I think I might take a look for some inspiration.
Anyway, I came upon this Slate Mobile LapDesk and figured, why not? It’s free! So, I took a chance on it. It’s listed for $98 on Houzz, which is way too expensive if you’re paying for it with actual money. You can get the same exact one I have on iSkelter’s website for $69.99 (or Amazon for the same price). They have other models as well, so you can find one that works best for you! Mine was free, thanks to Ellen, so I’ll take it, but don’t you lose your hard-earned money!
iSkelter really does pay “obsessive attention to detail:”
“The Slate is cut from a block of pure, premium bamboo. It’s ultra lightweight, super strong, and it will absorb the heat from your laptop. The curves, air ventilation, and docking station are chiseled, hand-sanded, and polished to mirror the feeling of glass. A super thick and heavy duty mouse pad is installed and sits flush against the surface of the slate.”
I have definitely seen a usage change in my laptop just sitting on my lap versus using the Slate.
It’s comfortable enough to use on my lap while doing research for hours, writing blog posts, editing photos or even just browsing the web. Plus, I even find it easy to game with it on my lap which is a total game-changer (pun not intended). The vents help it function better during gaming and the mouse is in the optimum spot for comfort and use. Additionally, it’s great to have the small tablet/phone dock because if I’m playing League of Legends, I can keep my champion’s build and skill set up to reference during the game without having to switch windows on my Mac. That’s a huge nerdy help. Especially when i’ve spent ages setting up extra accounts on sites like www.boostingboss.com, or when friends and I are trying to co-ordinate in game.
Here, you can see my iPhone 6 Plus fits comfortably in the dock. There’s even a hole centered in the middle of the dock so you can put your charging cord through and charge your phone while it’s upright.

I just wanted to share with you guys this awesome lap desk because I’m in love with it. I’m an office supplies addict and most of the stuff I love is usually kitschy, but this is seriously so useful. So, if you’re in the market for a lap desk, or you’re tired of your legs being on fire from your laptop, check out the Slate!
